The State Column | Monday, October 03, 2011

The latest poll out of Massachusetts shows Massachusetts U.S. Senator Scott Brown continuing to lead Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren.

Mr. Brown leads Ms. Warren, 41 percent to 38 percent, among registered voters, according to the UMass-Lowell/Boston Herald poll released Monday. Mr. Brown holds an overwhelming lead among independents, 48 percent to 29 percent, while he also holds the support of 18 percent of voters who lean Democrat. Ms. Warren retains the support of just 4 percent of voters leaning Republican.

The poll comes just weeks after Ms. Warren, a professor at Harvard Law School, announced her bid for the U.S. Senate. The Massachusetts Democrat has gained national attention in her role as a White House adviser and key proponent of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

This poll surveyed 1,005 registered voters from Sept. 22-28 with a margin of error of 3.8 percentage points. The sample of 636 registered Democratic voters has a margin of error of 5.1 percentage points.
