Sen. Bernie Sanders doubles campaign haul

The State Column | Tuesday, April 19, 2011

Vermont U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders breached the $1 million fundraising mark last quarter with a surge of contributions between January and March, according to a report his campaign provided Tuesday.

The Vermont independent reported $1.05 million for his 2012 re-election bid, doubling his cash haul from 2010.

Mr. Sander raised most of his cash in the two most recent quarters. The flow of cash follows Mr. Sanders’ speech on the U.S. Senate floor in December in which he condemned attempts by Republicans to extend the Bush-era tax cuts. Mr. Sanders has repeatedly called for increasing taxes on Americans making more than $250,000.
