Sen. Bernie Sanders says he will oppose federal budget bill

The State Column | Tuesday, April 12, 2011

Vermont U.S. Senator Bernie Sander said Tuesday he will opposed a federal budget bill that cuts federal spending and prevents a government shutdown.

Mr. Sanders says he cannot support the spending bill coming before the Senate, saying it puts an unfair burden on working families.

“Today, in order to reduce deficits that Republicans helped create, they now are slashing programs of enormous importance to working families, the elderly, the sick and children,” Mr. Sanders said in a news release. “It takes from struggling working families and gives to multi-millionaires. This is obscene.”

The Vermont Independent has repeatedly criticized Republicans for the proposal, saying it represents class warfare. Mr. Sanders, a member of the Senate Budget Committee, said “there can be no doubt that these cuts will be devastating to working families in Vermont and throughout the country.”
