Sen. Claire McCaskill leads Rep. Sam Graves in early poll

The State Column | Friday, January 28, 2011

It seems the race for U.S. Senate in Missouri will be a close one.

A new SurveyUSA poll in Missouri finds U.S. Senator  Claire McCaskill leading Republican Rep. Sam Graves  in a U.S.Senate race, 48 percent  to 44 percent.

The poll shows Ms. McCaskill vulnerable to a Republican defeat. The poll notes that Mr. Graves has little name recognition, a reality that will allow him to build a base of support, while Ms. McCaskill remains relatively well known.

The poll was commissioned by Mr. Graaves, who is exploring a possible big for the seat.  Mr. Graves has not officially announced his candidacy, but floated the idea with reporters earlier this week. The Missouri Republican continues to build fundraising support as he explores his bid.
