The Tea Party Express slammed President Barack Obama’s State of the Union (SOTU) speech Tuesday night. “Americans are tired of listening to Obama pit employees against employers, job creators against those looking for opportunity,” Chief Strategist Sal Russo said in a Tea Party Express press release. Mr. Russo is recognized as an expert on the Tea Party movement as well as state and national politics.
“Republicans have passed legislation to address major issues, but they languish in the Democratic Senate without any consideration by this President,” Mr. Russo argued.
In his SOTU speech, Mr. Obama highlighted the impact of Congress’ partisanship on the political process. “As long as I’m President, I will work with anyone in this chamber to build on this momentum. But I intend to fight obstruction with action, and I will oppose any effort to return to the very same policies that brought on this economic crisis in the first place,” Mr. Obama posited.
The Tea Party movement has often been blamed for contributing to Congress’ inability to pass big pieces of legislation. “The Tea Party movement continues to be committed to reducing the size, cost and intrusiveness of the federal government,” Mr. Russo professed.
The Tea Party Express is an “aggressive and influential” Tea Party group. According to the group’s website, the Tea Party Express is “committed to identifying and supporting conservative candidates and causes that will champion tea party values.”
Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain delivered a rebuttal to Mr. Obama SOTU speech for the Tea Party Express Tuesday night.
