Texas Gov. Perry to face Straw Poll in Colorado

The State Column | Friday, July 29, 2011

The Texas Tribune reports that this weekend in Denver, Governor Rick Perry will finally have a chance to see how he measures up against other GOP candidates. The event in which the poll will take place is The Western Conservative Summit, with Perry being one of the keynote speakers.

The poll will likely include both announced and unannounced GOP candidates, with both Rick Santorum and Herman Cain also scheduled to appear at the event in Denver. Over 900 attendees will be given the opportunity to vote in the straw poll, and Summit organizers hope to have the results in by Sunday.

In addition to the major candidates already known, there will be others included in the poll who have yet to formally announce a run for the White House, such as: Sarah Palin, Rudy Giuliani, and former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton. Many insiders consider Colorado to be a key swing state, and notorious Republican strategist Karl Rove recently declared “As goes Colorado, so goes the nation.”
