Walker replaces Perry at RGA; Christie named vice-chair

The State Column | Wednesday, September 07, 2011

Wisconsin governor Scott Walker will replace former Texas governor Rick Perry as the chair of the Republican Governors Association.

Mr. Walker said in a statement announcing the appointment Wednesday that he looked forward to working with the RGA to get more Republicans elected governor.

Mr. Christie, in a statement, says Republican governors have been at the forefront of implementing ideas to solve budget problems and other crises. “This new role is a great opportunity to ensure that the good ideas already reforming the way state government works take hold across the country,” he said.

The move comes just months after Mr. Perry assumed his reins at the organization, taking over from Mississippi Republican governor Haley Barbour. Mr. Perry, who garnered national attention as a result of his ability to raise millions of dollars for the group, said earlier this month that he would relinquish his role as he campaigns for the Republican presidential nomination.
