What does Karl Rove know about Wikileaks and Julian Assange?

The State Column | Tuesday, January 04, 2011

It seems Karl Rove and Wikileaks are closer than they appear.

The former Bush administration adviser seems caught up in the debate over whether the United States should extradite Mr. Assange.

Mr. Rove has reportedly advised Swedish Prime Minister Fredric Reinfeldt for the past two years. The country is currently working with U.K. officials in extraditing Mr. Assange to face sexual misconduct allegations. The United States Department of Justice is considering requests to call for Mr. Assange.

Mr. Rove has publicly assisted the Swedish government in winning elections. The former Bush operative has helped Mr. Reinfeldt lead his party to election success over liberal opponents.

Whether Mr. Rove has any connection to the Wikileaks investigation remains unclear. A handful of newspapers in Sweden have pushed the issue, noting a trip taken by Mr. Rove on November 5th.
